GYRO EP Release Party Videos #TBT

GYRO EP Release Party Videos #TBT

While brainstorming recently on video content to produce for the YouTube channel, I realised I had loads of raw footage that might be worth cutting and uploading. Armed with inspiration and a large cup of coffee, I was on a mission.

Almost a year has passed since the DBMCs GYRO EP release party in Portrush last November, and the footage from the night has been hibernating on my hard drive. As I browsed the folder, watching the video clips for the first time in months, it brought back vivid memories of an unreal night of local Hip Hop that had to be shared. With minimal editing to do I knew I could pick out the best performances and have them ready to upload in a day or two, just in time for #ThrowbackThursday.

The atmosphere and energy in the Atlantic Lounge grew steadily through the night like tension building in a horror movie. As each act performed the crowd got louder, track by track and drink by drink. I knew the DBMCs would bring their high energy performance to the stage as usual, but I was seeing most of the Emcees on the bill perform for the first time. The line up didn't disappoint, everyone who got their hands on a mic ripped it! Juma and Chucky kicked things off with a bang before Dsgrace brought a bit of Belfast to the North Coast. Shane Deane and The Dizzfunktional BMC were next up and were joined on stage by Amanda Healy for a few tracks. By the time they dropped Epic Cypher with the DBMCs to finish up their set the whole room was bouncing.

Steve Loc had a hard act to follow but he was ready to deliver! Joined by members of his crew, Guy Named Frank and Mac N Marxx to drop some serious lyrics on some dirty beats and keep the crowd hyped up. The hosts of the night took to the stage last amidst cheers and applause as the night neared its crescendo, performing every track from the GYRO EP along with a few older tracks and taking the excitement to a peak with their unique brand of North Coast Hip Hop. By the time they closed the show with Waspers there was a mosh pit in front of the stage!

It was a great night and it introduced me to some of the best up and coming local emcees, the future looks bright for HipHop in Northern Ireland.
